CONFERENCE DETAILS

Heidelberg Germany, April 26-28, 2020

We begin our 2020 series of conferences in the lovely, quaint city of Heidelberg, in western Germany just south of Frankfurt.  We met here two years ago, and found it to be a charming city of old town architecture, castles on hills overlooking the city, and a beautiful river flowing through the center of town.  Heidelberg Germany is very reminiscent of Salzburg Austria in so many ways.

Heidelberg in the Spring is nothing short of spectacular!  The town is adorned in flowers and greenery awakened from its winter slumber.  While Heidelberg is a relatively small town (about 150K residents), it is one of the most visited cities in Europe.  Its small town charm is felt while strolling along the main pedestrian street,  named the Haupstrasse.  Shopping, brewhouses and restaurants abound in this quaint town center.  It is home to Heidelberg University, Germany’s oldest university, established in the late 1300’s.  The vibrant student life translates to an active and lively town center.

On the southern edge of the Old City, high up on the hill, lies Heidelberg Castle, with a commanding view of the city center and the Neckar river dividing the city into north and south sectors.  Heidelberg castle is a mix of architectural styles, from Gothic to Renaissance, and whose construction began in the late 1300’s as well.  While some of the castle is in ruins, other sections are not, and are still used for a variety of functions.  Tours are available daily.  Oh….and you can take a funicular up to the castle from the town center.  It is a nice stroll back down to the city center, winding through narrow streets and alleys behind and beside private homes.

The food in Heidelberg is fantastic.  If any of you are lovers of bacon, you cannot visit Heidelberg without trying the roasted pork knuckle; it’s enough for two folks and goes great with a beer.  If you’re into wine, there are many varietals from this area to enjoy.  In fact, you can see the world’s largest wine barrel in Heidelberg.

Just to the southwest of Heidelberg, about an hour and a half by train, and across the Rhine River, lies the lovely French city of Strasbourg.  We will be hosting another meeting in Strasbourg following the completion of the Heidelberg meeting.  Consider joining us for both meetings at a reduced registration rate.

Our welcome reception will be held at 6 PM on the evening of April 26, 2020 in the restaurant of Hotel Zur Alten Brucke, centrally located on the pedestrian street in old Heidelberg, just across from the Old Town Bridge.  Appetizers of local fare, and beer and wine will be served for all registrants and their guests.  Hotels in Heidelberg are relatively small, with about 20-30 rooms in a typical hotel in old town.  Chances are high that Hotel Zur Alten Brucke will fill, so please select a hotel of your choosing from the many in this quaint city.

Continuing education will be help on the mornings of April 27 and 28, 2020, beginning promptly at 6:30AM, and finishing just after noon.

Hotel Zur Alten Brucke, as mentioned, will be our host hotel, and the hotel where our welcome reception will be held.  You can access the website following this link:   https://www.hotel-zur-alten-bruecke.de/

Registration is on a first come, first served basis.  Once the meeting is full, registrations will be closed.  So register early to assure yourself a spot at the meeting.
